Fr Ziad Hilal SJ of the Jesuit Refugee Service in Syria – an organisation which received the Pax Christi International Peace Award in 2014 for its outstanding dedication in providing emergency relief to Syrians since the war began in 2011 – lived in Homs (Syria) and stayed with Fr Frans van der Lugt SJ during the rebels’ occupation of the city centre.
